Anthropology
Well,
here's some anthropology talk
Don't you see
We're all descended from the family tree.
Down through the long lost ages
Through the different phases
It seems that man was always jumpin'
But if you try to figure it out
Sure it's true,
You know I got to be related to you.
Man started swingin' long ago
Look in the history books
You're gonna know that's so.
Yes
every single human bein'
Is bound to have a brother or two;
Don't forget that it's so
The people you know
They all originated long ago.
Don't you see
That all of us need, urgently
To stick together on the family tree;
Brothers and sisters here on earth.
And now before it's to late
You better dig what it's worth
Born
to be Blue
Some
folks were meant to live in clover,
But they are such a chosen few.
And clover, being green,
Is something I've never seen,
'Cause I was born to be blue.
When there's a yellow moon above me,
They say there's moonbeams I should view.
But moonbeams being gold
Are something I can't behold
'Cause I was born to be blue.
When I met you the
World was bright and sunny
When you left the curtain fell.
I'd like to laugh but nothing strikes me funny.
Now my world's a faded pastel.
Well, I guess I'm luckier than some folks;
I've known the thrill of loving you.
And that alone is more
Than I was created for,
'Cause I was born to be blue.
In
a Mellow Tone
In
a mellow tone, feelin' fancy free
And I'm not alone, I've got company.
Everything's okay the livelong day
With this mellow song I can't go wrong.
In a mellow tone, that's the way to live.
If you mope and groan, something's got to give.
Just go your way, and laugh and play,
There's joy unknown In a mellow tone.
No
Moon at All
No
moon at all, what a night,
Even lightinin' bugs have dimmer their light,
Stars have disappeared from sign
And there's no moon at all.
Don't make a sound, it's so dark,
Even Fido is afraid to bark,
What a perfect chance to park,
And there's no moon at all.
Should we want atmosphere
For inspiration, dear,
One kiss will make it clear
That tonight is right
And bright moonlight might interfere.
No moon at all, up above,
This is nothing like they told us of,
Just to think we fell in love
And there's no moon at all.
Agua De Beber
Your
love is rain, my heart the flower,
I need your love or I will die.
My very life is in your power,
Will I wither and fade or blossom to the sky?
Agua
de Beber,
Give the flower water to drink,
Agua de Beber,
Give the flower water to drink
I'll
never see another springtime.
I'll never feel the summer sun.
Unless you're there to share that springtime,
And like the rain and the flower our hearts are one.
Agua
de Beber,
Give the flower water to drink,
Agua de Beber,
Give the flower water to drink
The
rain can fall on distant deserts;
The rain can fall upon the sea
The
rain can fall upon the flower
Since the rain has to fall let it fall on me.
Agua
de Beber,
Give the flower water to drink,
Agua de Beber,
Give the flower water to drink
Isfahan
A
thief in the night has stolen all my dreams.
The once happy hours are now a sad reverie.
If only time and its sadness be reversed
We'd go on like we have rehearsed
Songs of our love we sing every verse.
The
harsh light of dawn reveals an empty room.
A table for one, the blues is my song.
If you come back to me
How sweet life will be
A new song of joy is what we'll sing.
Peel
Me a Grape
Peel
me a grape, crush me some ice
Skin me a peach, save the fuzz for my pillow
Talk to me nice, talk to me nice
You've got to wine and dine me
Don't
try to fool me bejewel me
Either amuse me or lose me
I'm getting hungry, peel me a grape
Pop
me a cork, French me a fry
Crack me a nut, bring a bowl full of bonbons
Chill me some wine, keep standing by
Just entertain me, champagne me
Show me you love me, kid glove me
Best way to cheer me, cashmere me
I'm getting hungry, peel me grape
Here's
how to be an agreeable chap
Love me and leave me in luxury's lap
Hop when I holler, skip when I snap
When I say, do it, jump to it
Send
out for scotch, call me a cab
Cut me a rose, make my tea with the petals
Just hang around, pick up the tab
Never out think me, just mink me
Polar bear rug me, don't bug me
New thunderbird me, you heard me
I'm getting hungry, peel me a grape
Another
Star
For
you there might be a brighter star,
But through my eyes the light of you is all I see.
For you, there might be another song,
But all my heart can hear is your melody.
So
long ago, my heart without demanding,
Informed me that no other love could do.
But listen did I not, though understanding,
I fell in love with one
Who would break my heart in two.
For
you love might be a toast of wine,
But with each sparkle know the best for you I pray.
For you, love might be for you to find,
But I will celebrate our love of yesterday.
For
you, there might be another star,
But through my eyes the light of love is all I see.
For you, there might be another song,
But in my heart your melody will stay with me.
Lush
Life
I
used to visit all the very gay places,
Those come-what-may places
Where one relaxes
On the axis of the wheel of life
To get the feel of life
From jazz and cocktails.
The
girls I knew had sad and sullen gray faces
With distingué traces
That used to be there
You could see where
They'd been washed a way
By too many through the day
Twelve o-clock tales.
Then you came along
With your siren song
To tempt me to madness.
I thought for a while
That your poignant smile
Was tinged with the sadness of a great love for me.
Ah yes, I was wrong.
Again, I was wrong.
Life is lonely again.
And only last year, everything seemed so sure.
Now life is awful again.
A trough full of hearts could only be a bore.
A week in Paris will ease the site of it,
All I care is to smile in spite of it
I'll forget you.
I will while yet you
Are still burning inside my brain.
Romance is mush stifling,
Those who strive.
I'll live a lush life in some small dive
And there I'll be
While I rot with the rest
Of those whose lives are lonely, too.
Bernie's
Tune
In the park
In the dark,
Underneath the moon,
Heard a boy
And a girl
Hummin' Bernie's tune.
Went
to sleep
Countin' sheep
By a blue lagoon
Heard a frog
On a log
Croakin' Bernie's tune
It's
so easy to whistle
It's so easy to sing,
Even hummingbirds hum it
It's the thing.
Office
clerks,
Soda jerks
Pick it up so soon
Millionaires
Even squares
Whistle Bernie's tune.
In
the park
In the dark
Crazy as a loon
In the trees
Skillfully
Swingin' Bernie's tune
Little
kids
Go to school
Swingin Bernie's tune
Swingin' chicks
Get their kicks
Doin' Bernie's tune
You
don't have to read music
You don't have to be smart
Bernie says you can swing it
From the heart
So if you happen to get an urge to croon
Take
a tip, man it's hip, make it Bernie's tune
